Nutella love pancake

If like me, between working and looking after a family, you’ll be struggling to find time to organize anything special for this Valentine’s day. But there’s no need to worry. Help is at hand. We can still show our loved ones how much we care with simple yet thoughtful little gestures that don’t need to take up too much of our precious time to organize.

At Lady (& Baby) Marmelade, organisers of themed tea-parties & baby showers, we love creating beautiful ambiances and delectable food with little effort. As founder of the company and a working mummy with not much time to spare, I thought I’d put together a few ideas to make this Valentines’ Day a delicious and easy one for you and your loved ones.

Croque Madame Love Egg

Say ‘oui’ to breakfast in bed on a weekday! This delicious Croque Madame Love Egg is easy to make and a thoughtful alternative to your usual slice of toast in the morning. Simply take 2 slices of bread and cover each inside with a thin layer of butter and Dijon mustard. Add some Gruyère cheese and a slice of ham or turkey if you prefer. Sandwich together and pan fry slowly in a frying pan lightly covered with butter. Separately, take a heart-shape mould, crack an egg inside and cook to your liking. Place the heart-shaped egg over the Croque Madame and serve on a light bed of spinach leaves. Nothing starts the day better than a good hearty breakfast and an ‘I love you’ egg.

Nutella Love Pancakes

For those with a sweet tooth in the morning, here is an alternative to your traditional round shaped pancakes. Take a heart-shape mould and pour in your favourite pancake mix over a medium heat, buttered frying pan. Once cooked, cover with a generous layer of Nutella spread and serve with some fresh raspberries. You can even personalise your pancake with a message of love using an icing pen. The sweetest way to say ‘I love you’ at breakfast.

Love Heart Jam Tarts

An easy yet heart-filled recipe for tea-time. Take a ready-made sheet of short-crust or puff pastry. Cut out circles using a ridged cutter. Fill with your favourite brand of strawberry jam, (we love Bonne Maman). With the remaining pastry, cut out some heart shapes and place over the jam tarts. Cook in the oven for 20 minutes on a low heat. Best served hot with a nice cup of tea.

Hot Chocolate & Marshmallow Love Potion

At the end of the day, cuddle up with your loved ones and this delicious wintery warmer. A hot cup of cocoa and marshmallow hearts. Simply add a few spoons of Cadbury’s hot chocolate powder to hot milk, take a heart-shaped cutter and cut out a few heart-shapes from some marshmallow cubes. You’ll be sure to have sweet and delicious dreams after drinking this love potion.
